[UDT] Add new chore subtasks to a special task

Post by Niko » Sun Oct 27, 2019 11:46 am

This simple trick allows you to add an everyday chore subtask to a special task and category. This trick would be helpful if you use TDL as personal calendar software and spend much time in the Day/Week view tab.
By default if you click to a specific task and than add a new subtask all further subtask would also be added to this general task. If you want to add a new subtask to a specific general task, you need to select this task first and only after that add a new subtask. If you have a lot of chore tasks (shopping, road to work/home etc.) it would take much time to move to/from one tab to anoter to schedule these tasks.

To deal with this problem you can use UDT code to add a new subtask to a specified task and category by clicking on the UDT button

1. Go to Preferences -> User Defined Tools -> Add new Tool

2. Type the name of a new tool, select the path to your ToDoList.exe

3. Past the following command:

Code: Select all

   -pid ParentTaskID -c CategoryName -nt
Where

ParentTaskID - the ID a task where you want to add subtasks

CategoryName - the name of a category

4. Select an Icon
5. Click on checkbox "Display in toolbar"

For TDL UDTs you only need type 'todolist.exe' in the 'Path' field and it will run whichever version of TDL is currently running...

Hi,

Since this is like the first step of doing the GTD method (adding/capturing all tasks in inbox firstly), could this please be included in the ToDoList as a standard feature?

Thanks
